Fantasy Baseball Weekly Wonders Vol. 23

Sep 8, 2008

Here is a a look back at the past week in baseball to bring you the surprising stars.

Frank Francisco - If you can find a Closer this late in the year to plug into your fantasy roster, it could be enough to tip the Saves category into your favor.  The Rangers Closer picked up a pair of Saves last week.  He struck out 6 batters in 3 Innings of work.  His ERA was 0.00 and his WHIP was 0.33.

Ryan Hanigan
- Cincinnati’s Ryan Hanigan had a decent week going 4 for 14 (.286) with 2 Runs, 2 RBI, and 3 Walks.  While not outstanding numbers he did contribute at least a Run, Hit or Walk in every game he played last week.

Corner Infielder
Scott McClain - San Francisco’s Scott McClain has made the most of his September call-up.  He went 6 for 14 (.429) with 5 Runs, 2 HRs, 5 RBI, and a Walk. He qualifies at 1B in Yahoo leagues, but he’s playing 3B.  If they update soon he could give you nice flexibility down the stretch.

Middle Infielder
Juan Uribe
- He’s playing 3rd because of injuries, but he qualifies at 2B, 3B, and SS in Yahoo leagues.  Last week he went 5 for 16 (.313) with 3 Runs, 2 Doubles, 2 HRs, and 6 RBI.  He’s had a slow year, but perhaps he can give you some production and versatility down the stretch.

Nelson Cruz - Another Texas Rangers hitter makes it.  This time it’s Nelson Cruz.  Last week he went 9 for 21 (.429) with 5 Runs, a Double, 2 HRs, 6 RBI, 3 Walks, and a SB.  He had three multi-hit games and a hit in all but one game last week.
