Fantasy Baseball Weekly Wonders Vol. 7

May 19, 2008
Still waiting on the baby.  The due date is May 23rd so we’ll see.  I’m having some technical difficulties with my site following an upgrade of my blogging platform.  The comments are turned off for some reason.  Hopefully, I’ll have the problem fixed soon.

Enough programming notes.  On the meat.

A look back at the past week in baseball to bring you the surprising stars.

Pitcher
Jason Bergmann - Washington’s Bergman made his first appearance since April  since April 12th last Thursday.  He had been touched up for 16 Runs in his first 12-1/3 Innings so nobody could have predicted a 7 Innings, 3 Hit, 0 Run, 9 K performance.  Talk about a shocker.

Catcher
Rod Barajas
- Toronto’s Barajas went 6 for 13 (.462) with 3 Runs, a Double, 2 HRs, 5 RBI, and a Walk last week.  His monster 2 HR, 5 RBI Saturday night fueled his solid numbers, but he did get a hit in each game last week.  In fact, he’s working on a 8-game Hitting Streak.

Corner Infielder
Doug Mientkiewicz - Pittburgh’s Mientkiewicz is swinging a hot bat to add to his great glove.  Last week he went 6 for 20 (.300) with 6 Runs, 2 Doubles, a HR, 3 RBI,and 4 Walks.  Plus, he qualifies for both corner infield positions.

Middle Infielder
Jerry Hairston, Jr.
- With Keppinger going down for Cincy, Jerry is getting more PT at Short (along with Paul Janish).  He’s also played in the Outfield.  He is very flexible in Yahoo Leagues, qualifying at 2B, 3B, SS, and OF.  Last week he was 7 for 16 (.438) with 5 Runs, 4 Doubles, a Triple, an RBI, a Walk, and 2 SBs.

Outfielder
David Murphy - Texas’ David Murphy went 11 for 25 (.440) with 4 Runs, 3 Doubles, 2 HRs, and 6 RBI last week.  He had a hit in all but one game and has a mini 5-game Hitting Streak.
