Fantasy Basketball Trade Sleepers
When a trade goes down, someone usually is thrust into a bigger role. For example, now that Pau Gasol is no longer “Walking in Memphis”, his spot in the starting rotation will need to be filled. One choice would be to use newly acquired Kwame Brown. Yeah, he get some minutes, but I think the lion’s share of Gasol’s workload will go to Darko Milicic. In the first game without Gasol, he played 35 minutes, scored 12 points on 6 of 9 shoting, grabbed 12 boards, and blocked a couple shots. The Grizzlies had a balanced attack in thier loss with seven players scoring in double figures. However, I think the cream will rise to the top with Rudy Gay and Mike Miller taking on bigger offensive roles.
Now that I’ve discussed the trade that was, let’s focus on the trades that could be.
You’re outta here Kidd.
If Jason Kidd is dealt I’m guessing that Marcus Williams will be given the opportunity to run the offense. He’s in is second year out of UConn and has the potential to be a starter in this league. Provided that Richard Jefferson and Vince Carter remain with the team, assists shouldn’t be hard to come by. He’ll have to improve on his shooting though, as he is an abysmal 38.8% for his career.
Another Point Guard that could be taking up a new residence is Andre Miller. If he goes, Louis Williams will likely take over. He’s shown plenty of progress in his third season, and would likely become fantasy relevant if he got a starting gig. In 22 minutes a game he’s averaging 11.0 points and 3.3 assists. If you hear that Miller was traded, don’t hesitate before hitting your waiver wire for Louis.
I never complain.
If Sam I Am hits the road, Brevin Knight will see an increase in minutes. Of course, he can’t stay healthy so perhaps Cuttino Mobley would be asked to handle some of the Point Guard duties. I’m not sure how likely a trade would be though with Shaun Livingston’s injury. Maybe they could send him to Boston, who could use Cassell to bolster their depth, for Tony Allen. If that were to happen Tony Allen would add some serious value.
Ron Artest or Mike Bibby
If Artest or Bibby goes, the guys who will benefit are most likely already on a team. I’m talking John Salmons, Francisco Garcia, and Beno Udrih. They all play key roles on the team, but if either/both of these guys are gone for good, they would all step up their game a notch.
Perhaps if he didn’t get injured he would be the one moving to La La Land. Danny Granger already has taken on a bigger role in the offense. If J.O.’s absence was permanent, Granger’s number would continue to get called more. Jeff Foster and Troy Murphy would also continue to play decent roles with the Pacers.
