Fantasy Football Out on a Limb Volume 6
Time for another edition of Fantasy Football Out on a Limb. I scour the rosters to select a player who I feel will outperform a higher profile player in that given week. I base my decisions on matchups, how the players are trending, and the ever-important hunch. To mix things up I’ll occasionally do some two on one matchups or even pit RB or WR duos against each other. Sometimes I’ll spot a player some points.

Jason Campbell over Peyton Manning
Last week I rode Peyton to two victories over young QBSs Cutler and Rivers. This week I’m picking Manning again. Only I’m picking him to lose to a young QB in Jason Campbell. Rivers gets to face St. Louis and their dreadful D, which should allow Campbell to have a spectacular day. Meanwhile, Peyton faces the Ravens. Although he’s done decent against them in his career, their pass D is solid and Manning still isn’t himself.
Thomas Jones over Michael Turner
Michael Turner does well against Bad Run Ds. See Kansas City, Detroit, and Green Bay as Exhibit A. He doesn’t do as well vs. good Ds. See Tampa Bay and Carolina as Exhibit B. Well, this week he faces Chicago, which fall more in line with an Exhibit B team. Meanwhile Thomas Jones gets to run wild vs. Cincinnati. I look for Jones to crack the 100 yard mark and reach paydirt.
Julius Jones + 3 over Frank Gore
I’ll roll with Thomas’ little brother as well to have a good outing vs. Green Bay, who have been surprisingly bad against the run this year. I am spotting myself three points and taking on Frank Gore, who is facing Philly at home. Philly is at a crossroads and they need to bring their A game if they don’t want to fall out of the playoff picture. Their D will be up for this one. He still is Frank Gore though, hence the three points. Yahoo projects Gore to score ten more points than Julius, but I’m not buying that.
Lance Moore over DeSean Jackson
Last week it was Devery Henderson’s turn to pile up the yards. This week I see Moore returning to Brees’ favor with a solid game vs. Oakland. Meanwhile DeSean will likely be shadowed by Nate Clements, which could make for a long day for the rookie.
Visanthe Shiancoe over Dallas Clark
I’m going to mix it up with a Tight End challenge. Shiancoe has been a target for Frerotte the past couple of weeks scoring a pair of TDs. I can see him getting in the endzone once again vs. Detroit. As for Dallas Clark, I see Baltimore making life miserable for him.
Gus Frerotte over Marc Bulger
I orginally had Kitna, but he’s likely to miss the game so I had to find another target. Insert Mr. Bulger. It’s nice the players rallied around Bulger, but I think his game against Washington will net less points than Old Gus vs. Detroit.
