I hope you didn’t fall for the Favre bit yesterday. He’s not going anywhere. For starters, he loves attention. Craves it actually. This has been a quiet offseason dominated by LeBron’s decision and all the baseball trade rumors. Even Lance Armstrong seemed to be in the news more than #4. If he were going to retire, don’t you think he would have been lined up to participate in Dancing with the Stars or become the next American Idol judge? Something to keep him in the spotlight.
What this likely came down to, other than the attention, was getting Favre a few more greenbacks after the mega deal unproven Sam Bradford inked. No way was the gunslinger going to play for a measly $12 million when a rookie getting $50 million guaranteed. Throw in the Peyton and Brady contract talks, and old Brett wanted to get his.
Like I’ve said before, he had so much fun with this team. They truly looked up to him and respected him. They are young and talented. They are knocking on the door to the Super Bowl. Plus, he gets his chance at revenge in the season opener.
I’m sure this saga will take a few more twists and turns along the way, but I am steadfast in my belief that Favre will be under center for the Vikings in 2010. Sorry Tarvaris.
