The Brett Favre saga just won’t die. ESPN is reporting that unnamed sources have expressed concerns that the Vikings have a divided locker room concerning who should be the QB that leads them into the 2009 season. The sources claim that some Viking players favor Tarvaris Jackson, some favor Sage Rosenfels, and others favor Favre.
While I don’t blame them for being upset with Favre because he ditched out on training camp, do they seriously think they would be better off with Sage or T-Jack. Sage is a career backup. When your starter goes down he can come in and finish off a game. He can lead you for a week or two. He’s not the long-term answer. Of course, if Favre didn’t sign, I would tell you he’s the best option they have. T-Jack looked great in the preseason game. He played well against Arizona and Detroit last year. All you have to do to get the book on T-Jack, though, is pop in a tape of last year’s playoff game against the Eagles. Against their complex defense, he looked lost. Favre fell apart last year when his arm went out on him, but prior to that he was having an MVP-like year. If he’s anywhere near that QB this year, the distance between Brett and the other two is staggering.
It would be nice to know how many players are in favor of each QB and then you can get a true read on whether their really is a “schism” or “little support for Favre”. Until then, I will take it at face value. These players are professionals and they will play hard for whoever is under Center.
