Get ‘em or Don’t Sweat ‘em Week 16

Dec 22, 2008

There were some unusual heroes on Sunday.  There always are.  Let’s take a look at them and see if they are worthy of your fantasy rosters.

JaMarcus Russell
- Russell had a solid game completing 18 of 25 passes for 236 yards and a pair of TDs against Houston.  He finished up on the road against Tampa Bay.  They have been struggling of late, but I imagine Gruden will get the Bucs up to stick it to Al Davis.
Ruling:  Don’t Sweat ‘em.

Tarvaris Jackson - Jackson had a solid game against Atlanta.  He threw for 233 yards and 2 TDs and added 76 on the ground.  I’m impressed that he performed at that level since I put little stock in his previous six quarters of excellence against Detroit and Arizona.  That said, I wouldn’t trust him next week against the Giants.
Ruling:  Don’t Sweat ‘em.

Cedric Benson
- I hope you took my advice and rolled with Benson last week.  You had to be pleased with the 171 yards he racked up.  He should be solid again this week against Kansas City.
Ruling:  Get ‘em.

Maurice Morris - Morris ran for 116 yards against the Jets.  He finishes up against Arizona, whose D has been soft lately.  He should finish the season on a high note.
Ruling:  Get ‘em.

LaMont Jordan - Jordan followed his 97 yard, 1 TD performance against Oakland with a 78 yard, 2 TD performace against Arizona.  He finishes up on the road against Buffalo.  Buffalo should keep the game closer, and I just don’t trust him to do it a third straight time.
Ruling:  Don’t Sweat ‘em.

Dennis Northcutt
- Northcutt had his second consecutive 100+ yard, TD game against Indianapolis last week.  I love the way he’s finishing the season, but I can’t recommend using him in Week 17 (if your league isn’t wrapped up) against Baltimore.
Ruling:  Don’t Sweat ‘em.

Devard Darling - Darling had 3 catches for 69 yards and a score against Miami.  He has a favorable matchup against Cincinnati next week, but his three receptions last week were a season high.  I can’t endorse gambling on him in a Championship game.
Ruling:  Don’t Sweat ‘em.

Anthony Fasano
- Fasano caught a pair of TD passes for the Dolphins last week against Kansas City.  He has three TDs in his past three games.  Next up is a important matchup against the Jets.  He has something on the line next week so motivation should not be a problem.
Ruling:  Get ‘em.
