Are You Still Hanging with Mr. Cooper?

Nov 22, 2013

Riley Cooper
.
Prior to this week’s bye Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Riley Cooper caught three passes for just 37 yards despite a favorable matchup with the Washington Redskins. It was his seventh game with fewer than 40 yards. In his other four games he’s averaging 112.3 yard and 1.5 touchdowns. Do you think he’ll be more the starting fantasy option down the stretch or the one that should be on your bench?
.
I’m leaning more toward the former. While I don’t think he’ll consistently put up prolific numbers, I do think he’ll be a solid WR2 or WR3 depending on the matchup.
.
Next week he plays the Arizona Cardinals. They enter the week averaging 243.5 passing yards and 1.8 passing touchdowns allowed per game. With the rapport Cooper has with Nick Foles, he should have a strong showing in this one.
.
In Week 14 he faces the Detroit Lions. Detroit enters the week having allowed 283.8 yards and 1.9 touchdowns per game. This has the making of a shootout, and Cooper should be heavily involved. Another strong performance is likely.
.
In Week 15 Cooper should dominate the Minnesota Vikings’ terrible secondary. The Vikes enter the week allowing 280.1 yards and 2.3 touchdowns per game. Each week the pass defenses they face get worse.
.
In Week 16 he gets the Chicago Bears. Statistically, at 239.1 yards and 1.5 touchdowns allowed per game, they are the toughest secondary they face, but they lost Charles Tillman for the year.
.
If you play the full 17 weeks, you’ll be excited to face the Dallas Cowboys. They enter the week ranked last in pass defense with 313 yards and a pair of touchdowns allowed per week. Cooper had six catches for 88 yards in the first meeting.
.
The Eagles will be playing for a playoff berth and the schedule is favorable for the Eagles passing game to finish strong. Cooper should be a great asset down the stretch.
