Housh Your Seahawk

Mar 2, 2009

The Seattle Seahawks won the T.J. Houshmandzadeh sweepstakes, signing the talented WR to a five-year deal worth $40 million, $15 million of which is guaranteed.  He also had offers to remain in Cincinnati and to join the Minnesota Vikings.

Housh has 507 career receptions for 5782 yards and 37 TDs.  He has averaged 1012 yards the past five years and has 294 receptions (94.7 average) in the last three.  He was the top free agent on the market and returns to the Northwest, where he attended Oregon State.  Housh will turn 32 in September.

He give Matt Hasselbeck a consistent target joining Deion Branch and Tight End John Carlson.  Housh’s fantasy value takes a hit.  Hasselbeck is no Carson Palmer.

In other news, Nate Washington signed with Tennessee.  He gives them another weapon joining Justin Gage and Tight End Bo Scaife.  They are primarily a running team, but the move helps bring them balance on Offense.  Washington’s fantasy value increase slightly.

We in Cincinnati hate to see TJ go … Besides his talent, he’s a class act! To me, he’s a great #2 guy, thus requires a burner on the field to open him up.

Meanwhile, the Bengals continue to sink.

He would have had that in MN. Not so much in Seattle.

    * Houshmandzadeh plans to undergo an MRI on an unnamed body part. He presumably passed a physical examination with the Seahawks, so this should not be cause for alarm.
    * Houshmandzadeh might have considered the Vikings more strongly if Minnesota had a better quarterback situation.

CK – I’d take the Vikings situation over Seattle any day. Better line. Better Run game. Better D. QBs are about even with banged up aging Hasslebeck and Sage. I think Housh is just saying that to keep people from saying he went there for the money, which in the end is what he did. I can’t blame him for it, but if he wanted to win, he sure as hell picked the wrong place.

It is funny. You would think they would have that stuff checked out before they say he’s signing.
