Tomorrow will mark the 135th Run for the Roses at twenty majestic horses attempt to win the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs.  To the layperson it is the “unofficial” official start of the racing season.  Celebrities and commoners alike will tune in for “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports”.  Mint Juleps and big hats will make their annual comeback.

Over the years some pretty well-know horses have won this event.  Names like War Admiral, Citation, Secretariat, Seattle Slew, Affirmed, Smarty Jones, and Barbaro.  On two occasions the two-minute mark has been broken.  First, in 1973 by Secretariat, who still holds the record at 1:59.40, and again in 2001 by Monarchos at at 1:59.97.
