Can Knowshon Moreno Deliver a Fantasy Football Championship?

Nov 29, 2012

.
Denver Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno went from not playing since Week 2 to stealing the show in Week 12. Can he continue his improbable run and deliver a fantasy football championship?
.
Moreno controlled the backfield for the Broncos, perhaps catching the Kansas City Chiefs as off-guard as he did fantasy owners that were banking on Ronnie Hillman.
.
Knowshon ran the ball 20 times for 85 yards and caught four passes for 26 more. Meanwhile, Hillman had just three carries for nine yards. His deficiencies in pass protections seemingly cost Hillman more of an opportunity.
.
The odds are favorable that Knowshon continues to be the leading man. With a quarterback like Peyton Manning, pass protection is a key.
.
That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if Hillman received somewhere between five and nine touches going forward.
.
The Chiefs are not known for their run defense. Knowshon will have a stiffer test this weekend against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ league-leading run defense.
.
Once he gets past the Bucs, it should be pretty smooth sailing for Moreno.
.
He has a very favorable fantasy football playoffs schedule of the Oakland Raiders, the Baltimore Ravens, and the Cleveland Browns. If your league plays the full 17 weeks, you’ll be pleased that he wraps the season up with another game against the Chiefs.
.
Cleveland enters the week ranked 19th against the run. Baltimore and Oakland rank 26th and 28th respectively.
.
Moreno isn’t exactly a slam dunk though. He had 15 yards on eight carries (1.9 yards per carry) with a touchdown and a fumble in the first two games. He also is a bit of an injury risk.
.
As long as he stays healthy and continues to perform there is a good chance that Knowshon is a solid RB2 with RB1 upside based on his matchups.

No doubt. I have Matt Ryan and wasn’t pleased with his Alex Smith impersonation.
