MLB Injury Report

May 26, 2009

The Mets are all banged up with Jose Reyes and Ryan Church on the 15-day DL and Carlos Beltran out until Friday.  Reyes is dealing with an injured calf, Church has a bad hamstring, and Beltran has a bone bruise.  Angel Pagan got the start in Center for Beltran, Ramon Martinez, and Fernando Martinez started in Right.  Pagan and Ramon offer little fantasy value, but Fernando Martinez could be worth a shot.  He has been the Mets’ top prospect the past two seasons according to Baseball America.  He was hitting .294 with 7 HRs and 26 RBIs for Triple-A Buffalo.

The Rays, already hurting from Akinori Iwamura’s season-ending knee injury, lost his Double Play mate as well when Jason Bartlett landed on the 15-day DL because of a sprained ankle.  Ben Zobrist, Willy Aybar, and Reid Brignac will man the positions.  Zobrist offers the most fantasy value.

Other Injuries Worth Noting:
Hanley Ramirez (groin) could miss a couple of games.  Melky Cabrera and Coco Crisp injured their shoulders.  Ryan Braun got hit on the wrist.  Carlos Quentin (foot) will miss the rest of the week and could land on the DL.

Huge losses for the Mets. As they are currently only 1/2 game back, will be interesting to see where they are when these guys return.

Yeah, if they can hang in, they could be trouble for the NL East.
