NBA Playoff Predictions

Apr 19, 2008

So I fell asleep at the wheel and forgot to make my playoff predictions.  There’s no time like the present I say.  Here’s how I think the playoffs will shake out.

First Round
Lakers vs. Nuggets
The Lakers are too good.  I think Denver gives them a little scare, but Kobe & Co. win in six.

Hornets vs. Mavericks
If it were any other team New Orleans were facing, I would say their inexperience would get the best of them.  I just have no confidence in Dallas after last year.  I’ll take CP3 in 5.

Spurs vs. Suns
I am torn on this one.  I think the Spurs are the team to beat because they just get playoff basketball.  However, if the referees took control last year before Amare ended up getting suspended, the Suns would have probably been champs this year.  I think this year, Shaq will help them get over the hump.  Suns in 6.

Jazz vs. Rockets
Another Playoff series, another loss for T-Mac.  Utah is just too loaded.  Boozer, Okur, and Deron Williams are no joke.  If Yao was playing, maybe it would be another story.  I just don’t see Houston having the firepower to advance.  Utah in 7.

Celtics vs. Hawks
If Larry Bird and Dominique Wilkins were battling, I’d say this woud be a fun series.  As it stands, Atlanta doesn’t have a prayer.  Get the brooms out.  KG in 4.

Pistons vs. 76ers
Another battle of two teams in way different classes.  Detroit is going to beat them like a dirty carpet.  Pistons in 4.

Magic vs. Raptors
Dwight Howard vs. Chris Bosh.  Nice battle.  I think Orlando’s supporting cast is better, which is why they win this tough battle.  Orlando in 7.

Cavs vs. Wizards
LeBron is too much.  Washington shouldn’t have provoked him.  He’ll make them pay.  Cleveland in 6.

Second Round
Lakers vs. Suns
Yummy matchup.  Kobe vs. Shaq.  Gotta love it.  I’m going to buck the trend and roll with Phoenix.  It will go 7.

Hornets vs. Jazz
Some more nice matchups.  CP3 vs. Williams.  Boozer vs. West.  I think Utah has more weapons and wins in 7.

Celtics vs. Cavs
KG vs. LeBron.  Too bad Boston has way more supporting talent to their MVP candidate.  LeBron goes off, but falls to the C’s in 5.

Pistons vs. Magic
Detroit is far too good for Orlando.  They take care of business in 5.

Conference Finals
Jazz vs. Suns
Steve Nash has his hands full with Deron Williams, but Amare proves he’s the best player on the court.  Phoenix wins a dogfight in 7.

Celtics vs. Pistons
Another outstanding series that goes 7.  Sorry, Detroit, but the C’s are back in the Finals.

NBA Finals
Celtics vs. Suns
I think at this point Shaq begins to wear down a little.  The Celtics are on a mission, and they won’t be stopped.  They take the Suns in 7.  Paul Pierce hits the series winning shot.
