Nets Land Deron Williams

Feb 23, 2011

The Knicks may have made the bigger splash by winning the Melo Sweepstakes, but the Nets got a nice consolation prize in the form of Utah point guard Deron Williams. D-Will was averaging 21.3 points and 9.7 assists for the Jazz, but he’ll forever be remembered as the guy who forced Jerry Sloan out.
Feelings aside, fantasy owners should not get too worried. The move to New Jersey should not hurt Deron’s fantasy value. Devin Harris, coming over from New Jersey isn’t likely to see much change in value either. Derrick Favors, also included in the deal, takes a hit a he’ll join a team that already features  Paul Milsap and Al Jefferson. All three will likely take a hit as the Jazz distribute the minutes among the big men. Another loser in the deal could be Jordan Farmar. With Devin Harris being more injury-prone, Farmar had a greater chance at having short-term value with Harris running the point. Not only is that opportunity limited, D-Will will play more minutes than Harris did.
In other news, Sacramento dealt Carl Landry to the Hornets for Marcus Thornton. The Kings have a crazy rotation, but with Tyreke Evans (foot) out, Thornton has the opportunity to make an impression. Landry probably loses some value as he’ll be playing behind David West.
