NFL Free Agent Report Vol. 7
Time for the seventh installment of the NFL Free Agent Report. Click here for a link to earlier reports.
Bell will return to Detroit for one year for a cool $1.6 million. He played in only five games last year, running for 182 yards. Kevin Jones tore his ACL last year, so Bell will have a chance to start.
I still think the Jets are making the moves to improve their running attack because they are going to select a running back in this RB deep draft. Signing Chatman isn’t going to change that. It could, however, be a sign that Thomas Jones will be shown the door. Chatman was decent last year filling in for Ronnie Brown. He ran for 515 yards and added 161 receiving yards. He signed for one year.
The Sehawks have already added T.J. Duckett. Bringing in Julius Jones leads me to belive Shaun Alexander’s days are numbered. Jones signed for four years and $12 million. Jones had 588 yards last year after rushing for 1084, 993, and 819 in his first three seasons with the Cowboys.
Denver add McCree to the mix at safety. He had 67 tackles last year and three interceptions. Unfortunately for McCree his INTs came in three of the first five weeks. He’ll push John Lynch for the starting gig.
New Orleans is ready to take on the risk that is Dan Morgan. He is very talented, but can’t stay on the field. He’s only played four games over the past two seasons. In 2004 he had 102 tackles. This is a low-risk, high-reward move for the Saints. My guess is it doesn’t work out though.
Score one for Tennessee. After being the victim of free agency, the Titans struck back by inking Jake Scott away from Indianapolis. He started 55 straight games for the Colts, which help him earn a four-year contract worth around $20 million.
