Plaxico Burress – All Growns Up
To borrow a quote from the movie Swingers Plaxico Burress is “all growns up. Our baby is all growns up.” Before this season Plaxico had a reputation of being a Wide Re-Diva. He didn’t like practice. He showed up late for team meetings. You could never question his ability, but his work ethic and toughness was ripe for the picking.
Then came this year. He’s battled injuries all year long. He rarely practiced. All he did was show up on game day and produce. His ankle has been bothering him all year long. How does he respond? He shrugs it off and has a Pro Bowl worthy season. His knee’s been bugging him since late in the year. How does he respond? How does an 11 catch, 154 yard effort to vault New York into the Super Bowl sound? He’s missed some practice this week and people are wondering whether or not he’s going to play. Are you kidding me? He’s battled through these injuries all year, and I fully expect him to show up for one of the biggest games of his life. You know what else? I expect him to play well.
He’s gotten a little heat (I guess you could call it a lot of heat, but anything Super Bowl related is automatically going to be overblown) for his Super Bowl prediction. As a Patriots fan, I have no problem with it. I hope he’s proven wrong, but as a sports fan I’m glad that he thinks he’s going to win. If the Giants showed up on Sunday feeling defeated, they wouldn’t stand a chance.
