Quick Fantasy Baseball Sleeper & Bust

Jan 31, 2010

Fantasy Pros 911 is doing a series on Facebook where they ask  question on their discussion board. Then they invite group members to weigh in.

The question at hand is “who will be the biggest sleeper and bust in 2010″?

Here are my responses.
Sleeper:  Gordon Beckham. He had a solid showing as a Rookie, and should build on it. Moving to 2B will help once he gets position eligibility. Having the additional 3B flexibility is a plus.
Bust:  Carlos Beltran. I don’t like when a player has surgery that surprises the team he’s playing for. I also don’t like when a player is slated to miss at least a month of the year when the season starts. He still has a big name, and big potential so you’re going to have to take him relatively early. I just fear setbacks along the way that really cuts into his playing time in 2010.

OK, I provided my responses. Who is your sleeper and bust for 2010?

    agree on Beltran
the Mets look like they with have issues covering all that outfield grass this year
the gloves and legs especially look shaky

I’m still thinking Flores of the Nationals will break out and go to the All-Star game

my bust is Mike Cameron at the bat. Think he’s lost too much bat speed. But he will do OK in tiny Fenway with his glove, which is needed with the oft-injured Drew and the mediocre glove of Hermedia

My sleeper pick is Everth Cabrera. As long as he keeps his average up, which he will, the stolen bases and runs will come.
My bust pick is Jason Bay for three reasons. First. CitiBank Field will cut into his home run production. Second, Not having Ellsbury and Pedroia on base ahead of him coupled with the decrease in home runs will cut into his RBI totals. And third is the Mets effect. The Mets are where free agent sluggers go to die, and with all the questions surrounding the team this year, all I can say to Mr. Bay is good luck!

I like Cabrera, especially if I can use him at MI.

If Reyes and Wright are healthy, Bay could still have his share of RBIs. I agree the HRs should be hard to come by.

I think Beltran is an easy pick as a bust. He’s already injured, so what do you really expect?

I’m not big on Votto where he’s going in the draft. Low 2nd, early 3rd seems way to high and I don’t expect him to live up to those types of expections.

As for a bust, there are a lot to chose from, but I’m a big believer in Kevin Kouzmanoff.

I expect Beltran won’t live up to his draft positioning.

I’m not with you on Votto. I think he could be special.
