Quick Fantasy Baseball Streaming Options for 6/2/11

Eric the Rotoprofessor is stepping in as a guest streamer selection.

Mike Pelfrey got off to a terrible start (7.39 ERA over six April starts), which, when coupled with his struggles in 2010, caused fantasy owners to avoid him under any circumstance.  However, there are a few numbers that support him being a viable option for his start against the Pirates.
.
First, just look at his home/road split since Citi Field opened in 2009:
.

  • 2009 – 3.72 ERA at home; 6.72 ERA on the road
  • 2010 – 2.83 ERA at home; 4.95 ERA on the road
  • 2011 – 2.08 ERA at home; 8.58 ERA on the road

.
That alone would make him an intriguing option, especially against a Pirates’ team that entered play on Wednesday ranking 26th in the league with runs scored (199).  Add in that he pitched significantly better in May with a 3.09 ERA and 1.06 WHIP and there is a lot to like (including an impressive outing against the Phillies his last time out).
.
Granted, he hasn’t shown much in the way of strikeouts (4.86 K/9) and he had a lot of luck in May (.206 BABIP/84.5% strand rate), but that is offset how poor his luck was in April (.365 BABIP/60.6% strand rate).  Baseball is a game of averages and, with things apparently stacked in his favor, he could be worth rolling the dice on.
