Super Bowl Observations

Feb 2, 2009

super-bowl-2009

It was a great game.  That is for sure.  Here are some things I took away from the game.

1.  This is the most important one to me.  The last play was WAY too close for them not to go the the review.  It was a big play that helped decide the SUPER BOWL.  I’m not saying it should have been overturned, but at least take the time to review one of the biggest plays in the biggest game of the year.

2.  Larry Fitzgerald is darn good.  He was easily the best player on the field in my eyes.  He’s such a gift to watch.  His attitude makes him even more amazing.  I’d say he’s one of the NFL’s Top 10 players.

3.  Denny Green gets a lot of crap, but his thumbprint is on the NFC Champion.

4.  The first Super Bowl Big Ben was pretty much along for the ride.  He won this one.

5.  Santonio Holmes was a difference maker.  I’m still impressed with Pittsburgh for having the courage to take a stand when he got in trouble earlier in the year and the decency to give him another chance.

6.  The Edge looked like he still has life in his legs.  If he can swallow his pride and be willing to share the load, he has another year in him.

7.  Hines Ward is TOUGH.  It’s amazing a player as tough as he is can smile so brightly.  Pretty refreshing.

8.  Arizona’s D actually looked better than Pittsburgh’s.

9.  Pittsburgh sure knows how to hire Coaches.

10.  If Heath Miller was in a more TE-friendly Offense he’d be a star.

11.  Philip Rivers may feel a little inadequate as Big Ben has two rings and Eli has one.

12.  The Super Bowl Pick ‘em Contest was won by a Londoner.  OK, so he’s from Rochester, NY, but he lives in London.  Nice job King.

Great insight about the game. Fun game to watch, but a few bizarre, reviewable plays. Even with the technology, still some tough to call.

Not only a great catch by Holmes, but Big Ben laid it out there. … sure took the life out of our party that was full of people pulling for the Cards.

I was surprised how well the Zona D stopped Fast Willie.

    Well done!

Review system did well I though, but they should have reviewed that last play. You’re right Ben did throw a great ball. Zona D did look good.

I’d love to see Kurt back for one more year. Or in MN so I could see him every game. He’s a HOF QB in my book.

your mouth, football gods ears i hope!!
i’ve gotten a new found respect for the Zona organization, i learned so much just by watching them the past few months & SHAME ON ME for not paying attention to them sooner!!

they have so many SOLID players on that team that make clutch plays…..i don’t know WHY it took till now for them to get this far….

Don’t know, but they have a lot of FAs. 15 I think. If they can bring the majority back, they’ll be in good shape. Problem is they don’t typically spend a lot, and if they re-signed guys during the season before their run, they would have probably saved a lot of money. We’ll see what happens. Whatever does, it was a fun run.

    YEAH welcome to FA, dammit!!

Whatever does, it was a fun run.

    amen!!

i think, i could be way off here, but i think that after seeing exactly what they are capable off, this franchise might be HUNGRY now, for MORE! so the FO might just step up…..we’ll know soon enough!!

Hard to say CK. You never know. Philly was sooooo close with MeO that one year and never really did anything after that.

With the state of free agency and the salary cap the Cardinals have some tough decisions to make. Not too far in the future is the possibility of an uncapped season and labor strife. This will put small market team like the Cardinals even more in a bind. This kind of scenario will make it tougher for small market teams, even more so than there small market counterparts in the MLB. My hope is that they will work out their differences, put in a rookie cap and give the money to the guys who have proved themselves already. Making the NFL the parody machine it has been the last decade. In today’s NFL we could even see a Cleveland Browns siting in the Super Bowl soon.

I totally agree the rookies need a cap.

That’s what suprise me by some of the non-declarations by college juniors this year like Sam Bradford. He could cost himself a lot of money if they get a rookie cap worked out before next years draft. I don’t think he got good info from his handlers. Yes, I know college is fun, but making tons and tons of dough for playing a “game” should never be passed (literally for him) up.

I was Phitz crazed at the beginning of the season even though it was never really a chance in hell it would ever happen. Howard Eskin had him on a phone interview or something. We’d be unstoppable with him, He’s just an unreal athlete.
