Here’s my Week 17 team defense rankings.

.

1. Atlanta vs. CAR:  Motivated by clinching home field throughout the playoffs.
2. Pittsburgh @ CLE:  Should crush Cleveland to lock up the division.
3. Philadelphia vs. DAL:  Should be in the hunt for a first round bye.
4. Baltimore vs. CIN:  Fired up at chance to win the division.
5. San Diego @ DEN:  Missed the playoffs, but should go out in style.
6. New York Giants @ WAS:  Defense should be able to stop the bleeding.
7. Miami @ NE:  Patriots have nothing to play for.
8. New York Jets vs. BUF:  Last chance to get defense back on track.
9. Indianapolis vs. TENN:  Colts put Titans out of their misery.
10. St. Louis @ SEA:  Rams looking to wrap up division title.
11. San Francisco vs. ARI:  Niners honor Singletary with a win.
12. Detroit vs. MN:  Vikes aren’t used to playing Sundays. Lions put end to nightmare season.
13. New England vs. MIA:  Belichick could go all out since they’ll have a bye.
14. Chicago @. GB:  I see one of the defenses (I’m guessing the Bears) make a huge impact.
15. Green Bay vs. CHI:  See above. It could be Packers rather than Bears.

Here’s my Week 16 team defense rankings.

.

1. Pittsburgh vs. Carolina
2. San Diego @ Cincinnati
3. Philadelphia vs. Minnesota
4. Baltimore @ Cleveland
5. New England @ Buffalo
6. Dallas @ Arizona
7. Chicago vs. New York Jets
8. New York Jets @ Chicago
9. Miami vs. Detroit
10. Tampa Bay vs. Seattle
11. New York Giants @ Green Bay
12. St. Louis vs. San Francisco
13. San Francisco @ St. Louis
14. Jacksonville vs. Washington
15. Indianapolis @ Oakland

.
.

Inside the numbers:

  • Troy Polamalu likely won’t play this week, but Pittsburgh should still be a menace to the Panthers.
  • Cedric Benson will struggle to run against the Chargers, which will doom the passing game as well.
  • I’d be shocked (what else is new) if Brett Favre made another start. Joe Webb looked lost. The Eagles would swarm.
  • The Jets and Bears should trade plenty of sacks and interceptions, which makes both units decent options this week.
  • Part of me just can’t trust that Rex Grossman is for real, which would make the Jaguars defense a decent option this week.

Here’s my Week 15 team defense rankings.

.

1. New England vs. Green Bay
2. Chicago @ Minnesota
3. Pittsburgh vs. New York Jets
4. Oakland vs. Denver
5. San Diego vs. San Francisco
6. Dallas vs. Washington
7. Cleveland @ Cincinnati
8. Atlanta @ Seattle
9. Carolina vs. Arizona
10. New York Giants vs. Philadelphia
11. Tampa Bay vs. Detroit
12. Arizona @ Carolina
13. Miami vs. Buffalo
14. Philadelphia @ New York Giants
15. Cincinnati vs. Cleveland

.
.

Inside the numbers:

  • The Patriots are peaking at the right time and Green Bay will likely be without Aaron Rodgers.
  • An angry Bears defense against a sinking Vikings ship. Scary.
  • Speaking of sinking, what happened to the Jets. The Steelers should have a field day with Sanchez.
  • Washington started the nightmare season for Dallas. At least they can avenge that loss. McNabb will be on his back plenty.
  • Carolina and Arizona could set football back this week. Their defenses should post solid numbers though.
  • Tampa Bay’s run defense took a hit when McCoy went down. Fortunately they aren’t facing a strong running team against Detroit and still remain a starting option.

Here’s my Week 14 team defense rankings.

.

1. Green Bay @ Detroit
2. Tampa Bay @ Washington
3. Atlanta @ Carolina
4. Pittsburgh vs. Cincinnati
5. New England @ Chicago
6. Philadelphia @ Dallas
7. New York Jets vs. Miami
8. Denver @ Arizona
9. New York Giants @ Minnesota
10. Seattle @ San Francisco
11. New Orleans vs. St. Louis
12. Oakland @ Jacksonville
13. Cleveland @ Buffalo
14. San Francisco vs. Seattle
15. Indianapolis @ Tennessee

.
.
Inside the numbers:

  • The Packers once again take the top ranking. Their offense is so powerful that it will make the Lions one-dimensional. That’s when Clay Matthews can pin his ears back and go after Drew Stanton.
  • Bill Belichick should come up with a defensive scheme that brings out the Jay Cutler of old.
  • I feel sorry for the Dolphins for having to face the Jets after the pounding they took on Monday.
  • The Vikings will have a hard time containing the Giants’ pass rush. Expect multiple sacks and interceptions.
  • Baltimore, Chicago, and San Diego have tough match-ups against Houston, New England, and Kansas City making them less than desirable options this week.

Here’s my Week 13 team defense rankings.

.

1. Green Bay vs. San Francisco
2. Seattle vs. Carolina
3. New York Giants vs. Washington
4. St. Louis @ Arizona
5. Chicago @ Detroit
6. New Orleans @ Cincinnati
7. San Diego vs. Oakland
8. Baltimore vs. Pittsburgh
9. Minnesota vs. Buffalo
10. Jacksonville vs. Tennessee
11. Tennessee vs. Jacksonville
12. Philadelphia vs. Houston
13. Pittsburgh @ Baltimore
14. Detroit vs. Chicago
15. New York Jets @ New England

.
.

Inside the numbers:

  • The Packers are the latest team to try to survive the Lester’s Top-ranked Defense Curse. It’s where teams with seemingly good match-ups go sour. Without Frank Gore, the Niners should be vulnerable on the road.
  • The Seahawks, on paper, have one of the more favorable match-ups as they’re taking on Carolina at home.
  • The Rams aren’t playing at home, but Arizona is struggling to put points on the board.
  • The Bears have one of the league’s top defenses. Calvin Johnson worries me a little though. Detroit basically won the first game so there could be extra motivation there.
  • The Saints’ defense is right up there with their offense.
  • Big Ben is expected to play against the Ravens, but if they can knock him out of the game, the Steelers will be in trouble.

Here’s my Week 12 team defense rankings.

.

1. Philadelphia @ Chicago
2. Cleveland vs. Carolina
3. New York Giants vs. Jacksonville
4. New York Jets vs. Cincinnati (Thursday)
5. San Francisco @ Arizona (Monday)
6. Pittsburgh @ Buffalo
7. Minnesota @ Washington
8. Kansas City @ Seattle
9. New England @ Detroit (Thursday)
10. Baltimore vs. Tampa Bay
11. New Orleans @ Dallas (Thursday)
12. Washington vs. Minnesota
13. Oakland vs. Miami
14. Miami @ Oakland
15. Green Bay @ Atlanta

.
.

Inside the numbers:

  • Philadelphia’s aggressive defense should not bode well for Jay Cutler, who has a tendency to get sacked and throw picks.
  • When was the last time the Browns were thought about as a good fantasy defense option? It’s a combination of their improvement and Carolina ineptitude.
  • Both New York teams make solid plays this week. On a side note, who would have thought without T.O. the Bills would have a better offense than Cincy with him (not that I’m blaming T.O.)?
  • The Niners looked awful last week, but they should get a reprieve against the Cardinals.
  • I think the Vikings will look more like last year’s version with the coaching change. The players’ hearts weren’t in it for Brad Childress. That said, Washington is a decent play this week because of Favre’s tendency to get sacked and throw picks.

1. Baltimore @ Carolina
2. Kansas City vs. Arizona
3. New Orleans vs. Seattle
4. Tennessee vs. Washington
5. Miami vs. Chicago
6. Pittsburgh vs. Oakland
7. Green Bay @ Minnesota
8. Chicago @ Miami
9. Atlanta @ St. Louis
10. Dallas vs. Detroit
11. Tampa Bay @ San Francisco
12. San Francisco vs. Tampa Bay
13. San Diego vs. Denver
14. Jacksonville vs. Cleveland
15. Detroit @ Dallas

.
.

Inside the numbers:

  • We’ll see if my #1 jinx continues. The Ravens should manhandle the Panthers, but my top teams (Giants, Patriots, Dallas, Baltimore) have struggled in the past four weeks.
  • Arizona has been more competitive in recent weeks, but have a tough draw against the Chiefs on the road.
  • Washington is in complete disarray. Look for Tennessee to capitalize. The Titans could lead all teams in sacks this week.
  • Green Bay typically struggles a bit in the Metrodome, but the Vikings are in the tank. Clay Matthews should spend a lot of time looking down at Brett Favre this week.
  • Because of their match-ups, the Eagles, Giants, Colts, Jets, and Patriots aren’t strong plays this week.

Here’s my Week 10 team defense rankings.

.

1. New York Giants vs. Dallas
2. Tampa Bay vs. Carolina
3. Seattle @ Arizona
4. Minnesota @ Chicago
5. Chicago vs. Minnesota
6. New York Jets @ Cleveland
7. Philadelphia @ Washington
8. Detroit @ Buffalo
9. San Francisco vs. St. Louis
10. Pittsburgh at New England
11. Arizona vs. Seattle
12. Indianapolis vs. Cincinnati
13. Buffalo vs. Detroit
14. St. Louis @ San Francisco
15. Tennessee @ Miami

.
.

Inside the numbers:

  • Jason Garrett could inspire the team, but the Giants’ pass rush is just too potent.
  • Carolina’s running backs are dropping like flies. Matt Moore is out for the year. Tampa Bay could flash back to the days of Warren Sapp, Derrick Brooks, and company.
  • Both Cutler and Favre are prone to throw picks and take sacks. Both defenses should be solid in this one.
  • Miami has named Chad Pennington the starter. I’m not sure if that hurts or helps.

6. Minnesota vs. Arizona
7. New York Jets @ Detroit
8. Buffalo vs. Chicago

11. Baltimore vs. Miami
12. Oakland vs. Kansas City
13. Arizona @ Minnesota
14. Seattle vs. New York Giants
15. Detroit @ New York Jets
.
.
Inside the numbers:

  • Dallas has no heart. After manhandling the Jets, the Packers will bring it to the Cowboys.
  • Charlie Whitehurst is starting for the Seahawks. The Giants are licking their chops.
  • Derek Anderson is starting for the Cardinals this week.  For the second straight week I think a defense will step up with their back against the wall. I was WRONG with Dallas this week, but I think the Vikings have more heart.
  • Last week seemed like an ideal time for Carolina to show something against the Rams. They didn’t, and that only leads me to believe the Saints will have their way with them this week.
  • Detroit isn’t the pushover they once were. They won’t play put up huge numbers against the Jets, but they won’t get shut down either. I also think their defense will do decent this week.
  • Who would have thought the Bills defense would actually be a borderline starter? The way Jay Cutler gets sacked and throws picks though, it has become a reality.

6. Pittsburgh @ New Orleans
7. Denver @ San Francisco

10. Seattle @ Oakland
11. Cincinnati vs. Miami
12. New England vs. Minnesota
13. Tennessee @ San Diego
14. Carolina @ St. Louis
15. Miami @ Cincinnati

.
Inside the numbers:

  • Jacksonville is one of two teams, along with Chicago, that has allowed at least 15 sacks with at least 11 INTs.
  • Arizona has allowed 21 sacks and has only managed 237.8 yards per game.
  • Carolina is dead last with 12.5 points per game. Every else has at least 16.1 ppg.
  • Tennessee is tied for the league with 25 sacks. They are facing the Chargers, who have lost 12 fumbles.
