Are you in need of a little scoring boost? There is a 5’9″ point guard out there that could be a short-term solution. Short jokes aside, Nate Robinson can score the basketball.
.
Sure, he’s bounced around the league a bit going from New York to Boston to Oklahoma City to Golden State since the 2009-10 season. Last year was a disaster, but he’s only a few years removed from averaging 17.2 ppg for the Knicks.
.
Nate scored 24 points last night, including an absurd 14-14 from the free throw line as the Warriors knocked off the Heat in overtime. He should see some nice opportunities over the next week or two while Stephen Curry is on the shelf.
.
I don’t see him suddenly dropping 20 points a night, but maintaining his 14.7 ppg scoring average while Curry is out isn’t out of the question.
.
You’re going to have to deal with the shooting percentage. There’s really no way around that. He jacks up a lot of shots and he tends to make around fourty percent of them.
.
He makes up for his poor shooting by draining a lot of three-pointers (1.7 tpg on the year, 1.3 career), grabbing a good amount of rebounds (2.3, 2.6), especially for his size, assists (4.7, 2.6), and steals (1.7, 0.9).
.
Nate is owned in less than fifteen percent of fantasy leagues so he should be pretty readily available. He qualifies at PG and SG, which gives you a little positional flexibility.
.
Remember that this is most likely just a quick fix, and his value will go down drastically when Curry returns. However, he should give you some solid performances in the meantime.

Brandon Rush has had some moments of brilliance in his young NBA career. He averaged 13.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.4 blocks, 0.7 steals, and 2.1 three-pointers in 15 games last December.
.
In March of the 2009-10 season he averaged 12.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 0.8 blocks, 0.8 steals, and 2.1 three-pointers in 16 games. In March and April of the 2008-2009 season he averaged 12.6 points in 21 games.
.
The potential is there, as you would expect from the 13th pick of the 2008 NBA Draft.
.
The question is whether or not he can sustain the success. We’ll see if the change of scenery from Indiana to Golden State helps.
.
So far he’s liking his new digs. Through three games Rush is averaging the kind of numbers that he puts up when he’s had his best moments. He won’t blow you away in any category, but his averages of 12.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 2.0 blocks, 1.3 steals, and 1.7 three-pointers can certainly help fantasy teams.
.
The Warriors aren’t the same team as they have been in the past. They have yet to hit the century mark and are averaging just 92.3 ppg. As long as he’s playing around 27 minutes per game, that shouldn’t matter.
.
For starters, Rush is going to knock down three-pointers. He’s averaging 1.3 per game in his NBA career, making more than 40 percent of his attempts. He doesn’t provide many assists, but he gives you a solid number of rebounds at the guard position.
.
He’s a solid defender so the blocks and steals should continue to come.
.
If you have an expendable bench player, it might be worth your while to give Rush a chance.

Basketball Roundtable

Time for another fantasy basketball roundtable.

This Week’s Topic:
What do you think of Stephen Curry going at an average of 7.9 in Yahoo drafts? That’s above Danny Granger, Deron Williams, Dwight Howard, Pau Gasol, Amar’e Stoudemire, and David Lee… What do you think of Curry’s prospects compared to those other potential first round picks?
.

My Response:
That seems a bit high for my tastes. If Don Nelson was returning I could maybe stomach taking him that high, but I can’t imagine Keith Smart will run an offense that is quite as high-tempo.
.
I expect his scoring to increase in his second season to around the 22 ppg mark to go along with 7 assists a night. He’ll get a decent rebound total for a PG, shoot at a solid clip from the field, knock down a bunch of treys, rarely miss from the line, and pick up a couple of steals per game. He will also turn the ball over a bit.
.
One of the reasons for the bloated stats at the end of the year was Golden State’s injury situation. It would hard for them to not be healthier this season, and the increased depth will keep him from putting up the April numbers that are worthy of a top seven pick.
.
Would I take him over Granger? Possibly because of health issues the past couple of seasons. However, I would rather get the likes of Dwight Howard, Pau Gasol, and Amar’e Stoudemire to start my foundation. Maybe grab a Jrue Holiday, Rajon Rondo, Steve Nash, Tyreke Evans, etc. on the way back. The big men that will be available if you take Curry that early won’t be nearly as talented.

More and More we are beginning to see the value in playing the match-ups in fantasy basketball.  This year’s BleacherCreatureRotoTalk Fantasy Basketball strategy series has already explored the effects of playing match-ups against teams with good interior defenses in great detail. (Does It Make Sense to Sit Postup Fantasy Basketball Players Against Top Ranked Defenses?)  However, there is one match-up scenario that clearly stands out as one that must be exploited at all costs –THE GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS.

The Warriors are by far the WORST defensive team in the league. It is amazing how good they are at making everyone look great this year.  When you see Golden State as an opponent of one of your fantasy basketball players your eyes should light up, this is a cant miss match-up that should be exploited every time.

Golden State is letting up a league worst 111 points per game.  Opponents are shooting a league best 49% against them showing that not only are they giving up ton of points, but teams are getting easy looks.

The other night Gilbert Arenas dropped 45 points, the previous game Tim Duncan went for 27 points and 15 rebounds, before that it was Thaddeus Young who went for 26 points and 14 rebounds.

The Warriors make good players look like super stars AND make bad players look like super stars too!  Even Rodney Stuckey exploded for 29 points and 7 assists last week.

Examining detailed stats from 82games.com, the Warriors are letting opponents shoot 60% from the inside!  While it appears everyone is getting into the scoring fun against the Warriors, post players (like Duncan) and slashers (like Arenas and Young) seem to have the best chance of going off against Golden State.

Golden State has a light upcoming schedule over the holiday season.  However, there are some games to be played so be sure to get Memphis, New Orleans, and Phoenix players into your lineups as Don Nelson and his Warriors are handing out Holiday presents to all fantasy basketball ballers lucky enough to match-up with his no-defense squad!

Well, Stephen Jackson got his wish–sort of. He forced his way out of Golden State. Unfortunately he did not land with a contender, rather a struggling Charlotte Bobcats team. The good news for Stephen Jackson owners is the fact that he’s no longer at the whim of Don Nelson, and his bizarre playing time allocation.

Jackson’s value should go up a bit as he will be the focal point of Charlotte’s offense. Acie Law came over as well, but doesn’t have much fantasy value. Jackson’s arrival doesn’t bode well for the assist totals of Boris Diaw as the offense will likely run through Jackson. Diaw’s scoring could see an increase though. Gerald Wallace should see an increase in scoring as well. Raymond Felton’s fantasy value shouldn’t take much of a hit, but D.J. Augustin’s may.

For Golden State, Raja Bell’s fantasy value increases slightly as he provides injury relief following the loss of Kelenna Azubuike. Stephen Curry and Anthony Morrow should get more opportunities with Jackson’s departure. Vladimir Radmanovic, who came over from Charlotte, should get a slight bump in production with his ability to hit the long ball. He was getting just 16.6 minutes per game for the Bobcats, and could see a slight increase in Nellie’s system. He’ll remain an inconsistent option though, and not worth adding until he proves otherwise.
