Just because you’ve slipped behind in the Stolen Base category doesn’t mean you can’t catch up. Here are some reasonably available SB threats.
Juan Pierre, OF, Los Angeles Dodgers – Pierre should be gone in most leagues, but he sits at 50% Yahoo!, 55.1% ESPN, and 70% CBS Sportsline ownership. He swiped 4 bases last week to go along with 11 for 30 (.367) hitting, 8 Runs, and 5 RBIs. On the year he’s hitting .403 with 7 SBs, 17 Runs, and 12 RBIs.
Jerry Hairston, Jr, 2B/3B/SS/OF, Cincinnati Reds – For his versatiliy alone he should be owned in more than 16% Yahoo!, 7.7% ESPN, and 24% CBS Sportline leagues. Last week he stole three bases, hit .217 (5 for 23), scored 5 Runs, and had an RBI. On the year he’s hitting .247 with 4 SBs, 21 Runs, 3 HRs, and 9 RBIs.
Coco Crisp, OF, Kansas City Royals – Coco is only readily available in Yahoo! leagues (39% compared to 78.8% ESPN and 82% CBS Sportsline). He continues to be a source of SBs as he swiped 3 more bags last week while hitting .261 (6 for 23) with 5 Runs, a HR, and 3 RBIs. On the year he’s hitting .245 with 11 SBs, 28 Runs, 3 HRs, and 14 RBIs.
Michael Bourn, OF, Houston Astros - Bourn continues to be a SB threat (3 last week) while providing a nice average (.348). He did little else with 4 Runs and an RBI, but he’s a nice addition for SBs without bringing down your average like the two previous candidates. On the year he’s hitting .298 with 13 SBs, 24 Runs, 1 HR, and 10 RBIs He’s owned in 45% of Yahoo!, 49.8% of ESPN, and 57% of CBS Sportsline leagues.
