Vladimir Guerrero Texas Ranger

Jan 10, 2010

Chalk this up as a move that makes complete sense. The Texas Rangers have come to terms with Vladimir Guerrero to be their next DH (click to see the ESPN article for the specifics). He knows the pitchers in their division, and stays in a warm weather city.

Plus, he had a great deal of success at Rangers Ballpark last year. He hit .4440 (11 for 25) with 6 Runs, 2 Doubles, a HR, and an RBI. The 11 Hits were tied for the most (with Rogers Centre) for any road ballpark.

In 50 career games there he has a .394 average with 38 Runs, 33 Doubles, 18 24 HRs, and 33 RBIs.

There’s also the “if you can’t beat ‘em, sign ‘em” factor. In 102 games against Texas he’s hitting .396 with 73 Runs, 33 Doubles, 24 HRs, and 68 RBIs. His OPS of 1.127 against them is the second highest to Philadelphia of any team. Even last year, in what was a down year for Vlad, he hit .404 against them with a pair of HRs and 5 RBIs.

As long as he stays healthy, I expect Vlad to bounce back in a big way in 2010.

Dang … a healthy Vlad as a DH in that park could be some serious numbers!

he is going to LOVE hitting in that launching pad as their DH

shame the knees are going, because the arm is special

still mad at the MLB for letting him leave the Expos, a team they absolutely raped, because the Nats really could’ve used him
